BRIDGE

After living on the coast of South Carolina for 18 years I recently moved to the foothills of the Appalachian mountains. Connecting the Lowcountry to the mountains in my transition manifested in contemplating the span of bridges.

The architecture of bridges and engineering can be awe-inspiring as beautiful structures overcoming obstacles such as rivers and ravines.
As per my usual art reflection
process I delve into metaphor, symbols, mythology and psychology in which “bridges” are a cornucopia. In all cultures throughout our history there are stories of many types of bridges such as stone, a rainbow or tree connecting our realm with other dimensions. Many tales include animals as guides in bridge journeys.

In this series of paintings I ponder bridges, in literal physical anatomy but mostly within the territory of allegory and psyche.
